Zyprexa Claims Settled by Eli Lilly
- July 9, 2007
Settlements were finally reached by drug manufacturer Eli Lily regarding 900 claims involving the drug Zyprexa.
Zyprexa is commonly prescribed to those with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder but has been the target of many lawsuits since the drug has been advertised and prescribed for other illnesses such as Alzheimer’s.
The medication has also been linked with diabetes and many patients claim it enhances their depression and gives them suicidal thoughts.
Eli Lily Claims They Are Prepared to Settle
According to representatives at Eli Lily, they are prepared to spend as much as $500 million to settle the remaining claims over the medication.
The company reportedly estimated that more than 18,000 claims involving the drug have already been settled since its release, which still leaves 1, 200 claims outstanding and Lily claims they are prepared to “continue to vigorously defend” themselves and the drug.
